Secure HDCP not found error
OK, so everything is working fine with my PS3 & 360 w/add-on. I watched a movie or two yesterday morning/afternoon, but last night I went to play a movie in the 360 and the 360 logo is covering the whole screen, I have sound, and the message "Secure HDCP not found" keeps flashing on the screen. Hmm, OK, so I put the movie in the PS3...no picture at all, not even the menu screen. This is on a standard DVD, not and HD or Blu.
I googled the error & it seems that people have had this happen, but when I called my warranty company, they're giving me slack saying it can be fixed by this magical troubleshooting email that they will send. The Google search results lead me to believe the only way to fix the problem is to replace the 'board' in my TV, which by the way is a 61" Sammy DLP. I really didn't want to play email tag for a week, then have them set up an appointment to come fix it, but it's probably going to come down to that. Has anyone had this trouble, and if so, what was the fix for it? Thanks, ~S2K |
Here is a post that suggests that it is the 360 causing the problem.
http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7596_102...sageID=2585261 You did not list the model of the TV but if the Samsung is HDCP compliant then it is one of your devices. If things play fine in the PS3, that would clinch it. |
My PS3 isn't displaying anything, not even the menu screen. Games work just fine on the 360.

HDCP is for movies so I suspect that there is an hdcp issue between the game consoles and the tv. You could try unplugging the hdmi cable and see if it resets but my guess is that it will not.
Here is a PS3 thread I found http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7813_102...sageID=2521293 And another http://www.highdefforum.com/showthread.php?t=45388 How old is the TV and have you checked to see if that model is definitely hdcp compliant? |
I unplugged the HDMI's and replugged them, still nothing. My TV has been playing DVD's from the 360 & PS3 since their launch date, and I actually had a DVD playing in the morning on Tuesday...this problem happened within a matter of 8 hours, that's why I blame the TV. I was hoping there was a setting on the TV or something, but I found nothing, and that's kind of what I was hoping for here by asking around...a simple solution. It doesn't look like it's going to be a simple fix though, and I know I'm gonna have to have the warranty company come out, which sucks.
Brian-Thanks for the input & the links, and please, if you think of anything else to try, feel free. The TV is a Samsung HLR6167W. |
Hmm that is puzzling that it was working. I guess it could be the tv, I don't know enough about the hardware to know how and where the hdcp handshake is completed.
This is from Samsung's FAQ help section If you have an HLN, HLP, HLR, HLS, or HLT series DLP, and you see a message about HDCP compliance, it means that the video device (a DVD player or a cable box, for example) you have connected to your TV using a DVI or HDMI cable is not HDCP compliant or that its HDCP circuitry has been turned off. |
Sure sounds like something broke. Make 'em come look at it. With these so-called help desks these days, if I know what is wrong, I just BS my way through their silly troubleshooting.
"Yes, just checked that, didn't work", as I surf the net waiting for the magic, "well, I think we'll have to send someone out." No shit. |
