Help me pick one of these TVs...
 

So I've narrowed it down to 4 selections. My TV will be one of these four. Can any owners give me the pros and cons of each of their sets?

1) 42" 720p Panasonic PX75U Plasma - $900-1000
2) 42" 720p Pioneer Kuro 4280 - $1600 - 10% BB coupon - $100 HD Advantage (PS3) = $1,340
3) 46" 1080p Samasung LCD 4661F - $1,549
4) 50" 1080p Samsung LED DLP RPTV - $1,400

Right now I am leaning towards one fo the 42". I've been in all the stores and since none of them run dedicated 1080p content (and none of the nicer stores have all of these cheap tvs) I can't really tell if I'll see a difference between 720 and 1080.

I am retiring my old tube HDTV to the bedroom. 46" is pretty much the perfect size for my room without making the TV a distraction. So any thoughts, comments, concerns, etc? I may be picking one of these up after work today.

What distance do you sit from the TV? If it's more than 10', plenty of reports claim the eye cannot tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 50" TV. It's a few feet closer for a 42".

How far are you sitting from the TV?

If you are set on a 42", go with the Kuro. I would recommend jumping to a 50" and picking up the Panasonic ($1300).

Yeah, the 720p/1080p thing is not really bothering me. I'd imagine blu-ray viewing would be less than 10% of TV use. 70% will probably be TV (70/30 in hd), and the remaining 20 would be video games (Wii/360/PS3).

I don't really love the 50" plasmas and think if I leave the 42" realm it will probably be for something capable of 1080p. The room itself is probably 11' x 15' and not bright at all. I am sitting about 9.5-10' away from TV in prime position. Off-angle viewing not a huge concern. And I am not paying to have it professionally calibrated. I'll just use my DVE disc.

42" is too small for 10' away.

1080p isnt viewable until 10' away from a 70" TV.

why would you like plasmas at 42" but not 50"?

Too me it looked like the larger plasmas had a "glitter" effect that was less noticeable on the smaller panels, but that may have just been the specific settings in the store.

go to avsforum to find settings for the specific plsmas. go to the store and adjust the settings. stand about 10' back (your viewing distance) and enjoy.

Is your old one a 4:3? I went from a 63" 4:3 to a 65: widescreen and the standard screen picture (the 4:3 picture) actually got smaller.

My movies that play widescreen got larger. I wish I would have gotten the 73" but didnt want the pay extra $1500 bucks.

I assure you, the larger screen you get you wont be dissapointed. I tell everyone not to buy under 50". Just my personal opinion.

I agree. If you're considering 50" then get 50". I promise you'll be glad you did. If you go 42" that 42" won't seem as big after a few weeks and you'll 2nd guess yourself for not going 50".

Seriously tho, I'm sure I'd equally love any of the others, but for the size and the price, and the lack of worrying about "burn in", this DLP LED set has just been fantastic.
