Need to transfer VHS to DVD
In the the "other" forum there's a discussion going on about how tough it is to find a VCR these days. It got me thinking about all my home movies. My old video camera recorded on a small VHS tape that then fit into an adapter that was the size of a standard VHS tape. If I lose either my VCR, or the adapter I'm screwed.
Can anyone suggest a good VHS to DVD recorder? If I have to I could move everything to my PC then burn to DVD, but that requires too much time.

I'm doing it with my VCR and a stand-alone DVD recorder. The good thing is that it cleans up your video while transferring it. I showed my wife an original tape of some network stuff I taped 25 (!) years ago and then the DVD, and she could see the improvement.
I also use it to record laserdisc stuff that I have that hasn't made it to DVD.

Just bought a Toshiba DVR-650 for $184. Can someone tell me what discs I'll need? ie. DVD-RW , DVD-R, DVD+-RW, etc.

Don't buy -RW discs. Get -R or +R. Both do the job, and both play on virtually all DVD players these days.

I'd also check with http://www.rima.com
http://www.newegg.com and buy from whoever has the best sale going, at the time. All three sites are very good to deal with.

Actually I would spend a little more time on these. I would import them into my computer and process them through Pinicle Studio and then make a DVD. This way you can add Chapters, sound effects, titles, whatever.
They have a device that plugs into your computer and the program reads the slot... you just play the vhs and the compter suckes it up. Then you spend, well HOURS, getting it just the way you want it.

Between the three of them, you can usually find a good sale and certainly free shipping.
