Onkyo 605 - play audio CD from DVD recorder
I have panasonic DVD recorder ES25 connected to onkyo 605 which is connected to TV, using HDMI connection. DVDs play fine.
But when I play audio CD, sound comes fine, but TV also gets turned on.
Appreciate any help with connections for playing CD.

How is the DVD recorder connected to the receiver? What kind of TV do you have? My guess is that the TV is set to automatically turn on when it receives an HDMI signal.

The TV has to be powered on for the audio to play, because the receiver has to handshake with the TV to verify the HDMI connection. It sounds like yours comes on automatically first.
To just listen to a CD without turning the TV on, what I do is use an optical or coaxial digital connection assigned to another input for playing CDs.
