Philips DVDR3475 Experience?

Has anyone had any experience with the Philips DVDR3475 1080p Upconvert DVD Recorder?

I need a DVD Recorder and an upconverting player while I wait out the format war. I figured... kill two birds with one stone.

However, I've only found a couple of reviews and they are mixed. One them mentions that the finalzing of a recorded DVD still doesn't allow that disc to be played on a different player. Another says that you can't record from a cable DVR, my whole point of buying a DVD Recorder. Another review contradicts this claim. Are these reviews bogus or are these legitimate gripes?

i was looking at the Philips as well but the reviews about being unable to record from DVR kept me from purchasing it--i ended up picking up a Panasonic EZ27 Up-Converting 1080p DVD-Recorder that's worked really well so far
