Sharp XR-30X HD Projector
hello all, My dad called me today becasue this projector...
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=09-56759386-2 ...is on sale at Sam's club for $55X.xx and he is thinking of buying it. At first, I didn't believe it was actually an HD projector for that much, and it isn't billed as an HD projector in the name, but it is listed as supporting 720p/1080i signals. I said i would do a little searching for info about it, but I can't find any reviews. Anyone know anything about it? anyone have one? Would you recommend it for someone who is probably never going to own a HD/BR player, and only use it to watch HDTV (eg football and hockey or HBO-HD)? Furthermore, I will be in the market for a projector in the coming year, when i finish the new room on my house, and I wonder if this would be OK for me, someone who will be watching HD/BR dvds. Any advice will be appreciated... Nick |
It's not HD. It will accept and display 720p and 1080i, but it will down res it to 480.
Doesn't mean it won't be a good pic, but it won't be HD. My first pj was a X1 and OTA HD looked great on it. Few knew it wasn't really HD unless I told them. For a 720p pj probably the best bet is still the Optima HD70 or Mit HD1000u. Both can be found around $900 with careful shopping. Edit, well after looking at the spec's it does show 768...hummm more looking needed. |
That really looks more like a business type projector. I'd be concerned about the color wheel only being 3x (rainbow effect) for one thing. Colors may be difficult to calibrate.
You should check out videophile-oriented reviews. |

I couldn't find any at sites that are primarily for non-business use of projectors.
I did find some discussion at AVS... http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...0#post10963699 |
