Comcast HD DVR and guide: How long to populate?

Just had Comcast come out hook up an HD-DVR on one set, and SD on two others.

Everything looked good until after the installer left, and I notice the guide is only populated through about 7:00 this evening. How long does it take to populate the entire guide so I can set programs to record?

It does it in bits and pieces. At least a few hours, I'd leave it on overnight to be sure.

Once the guide populates, do I need to always keep the DVR powered on, or can it be turned off when not in use?

Well, if it's off, then it's not going to record anything.

It will turn itself on to record, then shut back off.

Kinda funny, we just had Comcast out to pick up all our boxes today. We couldn't take the 145$ a month for the less than ten channels we watched. We're going to get an HD antenna, and maybe build an HTPC. Over half our DVD collection is unwatched, and after that, we'll probably do the Netflix thing.

I know that was the case with DirecTV units, but I wasn't sure about this Comcast/Motorola unit.

Thanks. I was wondering if the DVR would do that. Hadn't had a chance to experiment yet...
