Picture quality on new TV

I bought a 50" Samsung plasma which was delivered this weekend. It has an amazing picture, but I've noticed what look like compression artifacts on a couple of HD DVDs. Specifically, the very end of the final cut of Blade Runner and the first sex scene in Brokeback Mountain. I've also noticed some "static" during the opening credits of Star Trek on HD DVD.

Now, I went from a 32" Sharp LCD to this TV, so I'm chalking it up to a larger size (I was amazed at how easy it was to tell the difference between an upconverted DVD and an HD DVD. I could see it on my 32", but on the 50" it smacks me over the head). Were these things there before and I just couldn't tell because I was watching on a smaller screen?

You should try seeing edge enhancement on DVDs on a 90". Painful.
