Home subwoofer for listening to music - advice please!
Hey y'all,
I'm looking to get a good subwoofer for my current setup. I have a harmon/kardon HK3480 and two Polk RTi6 speakers. Here's the key thing: my office is only about 10 x 8, so I don't need anything that will shake the walls or keep my neighbors up. Crispness at low volumes is what I'm mostly going for; I listen to a lot of jazz, so anything that can reproduce the notes of an upright bass while not being cranked to 11 would be perfect. An 8 - 10" cone should be enough. I've been looking at the Polk PSW10 and PSW303 subs, but I'm open to any suggestions...? Any advice? Thanks! Austin |
Good subs go lower (HT) or respond faster (music) than cheaper subs. A small woofer doesn't mean tight base.
It is tough that can find subs taht do both. Save a few bucks extra and go HSU. I would normally recommend SVS as well but I think HSU in that size/price will suit you better. You can spend around $500 and blow away that Polk. |
SVS is seriously the only electronic/stereo/ht piece of equipment I have never read anything bad about. I'm starting to toy with the idea of a new sub and SVS is on my short list.

+1 for Hsu
The STF-1 will fit nicely |
Definitive Technologies makes killer subs. Look at the supercube 3 for about $699.
Def Tech |
The more flat frequency response of the HSU or SVS would be superior for music.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! The HSU STF-1 sounds EXACTLY like what I'm looking for, from the reviews I've read.
