Video/Cable Amplifiers?

I was wondering if anyone had used a cable booster for their tv and if it helped the quality of their signal?

My cable is split four ways (2 HDTVs, 1 modem and 1 SDTV) and I was wondering if buying one would improve our reception. Some channels look horrible (lots of grain, even in some HD broadcasts) even though we have a digital cable box.

Also, should I buy a four way booster that I plug the original cable in (for the original cable in the basement) or should I buy 4 separate ones for each tv (1 amplifier for each tv)?

Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks!

Why do you feel you need an amplifier? Have you spoken to your cable company? Adding an amplifier can make a bad signal look worse.

Bottomline, the amplifier will not improve your reception, the amplifier can only work with the signal it gets.

I haven't spoken to the cable company yet but their signal used to be great. However it's now split 4 ways and I think that probably has a lot to do with the bad quality I experience from time to time. I was thinking an amplifier would at least help somewhat.
