Need suggestions on HT system - $7-800 budget

I have been trying to read all the posts on dvdtalk and it seems most people frown on getting a HTIB.

I am looking for a living room set up in an apartment. Room is 12X15.

I was just about to go out and get either a Denon DHT687BA, or an Onkyo SP904 HTIB but I just couldn't bring myself to do it without reading some more posts...

I was looking to spend $700-800 total including a DVD player.

any suggestions?

thanks

OK, this is $900...and you still need a DVD player...but I like this "HTiB".

Look for Onkyo systems at Circuit City. I hear great things about them.

It is not that people "frown" on them, most of us have alot of experience with all types of equipment.

What usually happens is that someone gets a HTiB and shortly realizes it limitations. They they complain, or try to find out how to upgrade something to improve it. That is rarely possible and even impossible if the products are integrated or require some type of special cables or adapters.

Many of us would advise saving for a better system and even assembling a better system a few pieces at a time.

I was very happy with my Onkyo HTIB for many years. If you have to have a HTIB i recommend Onkyo. If you are looking to assemble, there are great Harmon Kardon recievers out there right now that will still allow you to stay within budget with smart shopping for speakers.
