Question about DirecTV HR10-250

i have an hr10-250 that i kept when my newest model of dvr was installed. i would like to put this in a spare bedroom for use as another hd-dvr. i am curious though, as to how many of the new HD channels that i would get on this old model? i really don't want to pay more money for another one, if i could use the old one just fine.

Looks to me like you would need to upgrade to the new receivers.

The b-band converters are for the new receivers and wont help you. If you want to get some of the original hd channels with the old box, that should work, I am using a 4 year old Sony HD200 receiver myself.

thanks for the info. the old box should record things like non-hd programming and all of the original HD channels though right?

I would think so, but my question is for how long? Eventually, isn't everything supposed to Mpeg4 making the box completely obsolete?

^^ I would expect a complete changeover to mpeg4 should be a couple years off yet and the HR10 should be just fine until then.

You will always be able to record OTA channels with it. Also, I believe ESPN has not yet gone to MPEG4. For most male people, that is one of the main channels of interest.
