Are there any standalone DVR Boxes to record on you can buy WITHOUT a monthly charge?

It sets through a cable channel. And you can manually set it if you want. I don't think you can do it over air but I guess if you have channel that supports that you could. I know I don't.

I'm also looking for a DVR but with a cable card slot. Anyone know if the Toshiba mentioned above has a built in QAM or ATSC tuner and also has a cable card slot?

Back in July '05 I picked up a Toshiba RS-TX20 for $100 (reg. $600) through a deal at Best Buy. It came with Lifetime Tivo Basic service & a DVD recorder. I've got a WiFi USB thumbstick plugged in the back to download listing info. It has served me well ever since, but I'd be interested in upgrading to an HD model, if a transfer of the Lifetime TIVO is possible.
