Refurbished 30" Philips HDTV (30PW9110D) - Deal or no?

http://www.outlet.philips.com/b2c_re...sduidp0t557354

I was just surfing around the internet and came across this deal at another forum. The main draw here is the $269 price tag as I wasn't even thinking about buying an HDTV until seeing this. The thing is, I've read both good and not so good things. I've seen problems like overscan and ghosting on other HDTV forums. I figured that since there's so many knowledgeable folks around here that I'd ask you guys what you think about this set. It'd be my first HDTV set and I could surely use the upgrade on what I watch my movies on and I sure would love to have a nice set for when I get my XBox 360 in the near future.

Thank you so much!

If you search at AVS Forums, you'll find a "monster" thread on this set... including my own history, with a new unit, from a year & a half ago.

My set had no over or under-scan problems, but did have a very slight geometry quirk in one corner.
It ghosted badly on the tuner, but had no ghosting on the inputs, from cable-box or DVD.

The set "fried" after about 5 1/2 months.
Made a loud "pop", rainbowed, then went black!

I fought for a refund & invested it in a new LCD set, elsewhere.

Yeah I was reading through that thread a lot yesterday but it's pretty old so I figured I'd ask here for some new opinions. Thanks.

Philips makes good shavers. They make good touchscreen remotes.

Their other stuff....not so great. Possibly there's a good reason for the refurb status.

Can anyone recommend any alternatives at this price point (or close to it)? Thanks.

Two friends of mine have had excellent results with these sets. As with most refurbs, it's a roll of the dice.
