Which LCD should I buy?
Based on price and size, I've narrowed my choices to the following two LCD models. Any recommendations on which one I should buy?
- Samsung LNT4665 - Sharp Aquos LC46D82U I'm kinda leaning towards the sharp one due to the faster response time and 120 hz refresh rate. Although some folks say go with the Samsung |
I'd check out the threads for each on www.avsfourm.com.
From what I've read, both are great LCD sets and you can't really go wrong with either as long as you're a fan of LCD. But you'll get many more takes on the sets at AVS than you will here. This forum honestly isn't really active enough to be a very good source for recommendations on specific sets as there's always so few members who have any specific set and you need a very large sample to filter out bias from owners. |
The SHARP definitely looks better to my eyes.

Hi pro-bassoonist, do you mean looks better picture wise or specs?

Fok, I was deciding between Samsung and Sharp LCDs last year, although at a little smaller size. I ended up going with the Sharp and haven't regretted it one bit. PQ is great. I think both sets are good but a think Sharp gives a more lifelike picture.

i would suggest you go with that samsung...
the sharps are having serious banding issues... and the picture is not as good... Link to CNET.... notice how many 'i bought the sharp and returned it...' reviews... those are all over the net... and the 4665 you mention is the highest rated LCD out there... amazon has the 46 inch for $2299... that's the best deal there is... a full $1000 less than many stores... |

At the time when I finished my research and decided to go with SONY XBR3 there were plenty of posts at the AVSforum about mura, etc these sets were supposedly plagued with. I am happy to report that none such issue(s) are noticeable on my set. The reason I mention this: you should tweak and play with the set you like before buying. It is what you see that matters not what forum members think/believe. Good luck, Pro-B |
Go with the Sony XBR series LCD HDTV
I suggest looking at the Sony XBRs at your local store and compare with other sets by Sharp and Samsung.
The build quality on the Sony is better than the Samsung. Personally, the 4665 looks cheap and flimsy (glossy finish) compared to the XBR2. The picture quality is debatable between the Samsung and Sony. I have had no problems with ghosting, clouding, or dead pixels. |
I just got the Samsung LNT4665 this weekend. I'm happy to report I ran into no clouding or banding issues, and my set looks amazing.
