Sony 32" LCD KDL-32S3000

It's new enough that there's not much data on this online. Any thoughts/opinions? Clouds? The 2400 model for this size was Consumer Reports' #1 set -- any reason this would be any different? Right now it's my #1 choice for a 32" LCD...

Thanks all!!

J

I'll tell you, I've never been impressed with Sony's LCD line (their SXRD line however, its stellar). The best quality LCD panel, to my eyes, is Samsung, in a landslide.

Cool. So you would recommend the LN-T3253H as the best 32" LCD out there? I heard there were audio dropout issues on the set itself. (but maybe there's a firmware upgrade available)

I'm a plasma / projector guy, so I can't help you too much on LCD. I will say that everytime I demo a Samsung LCD, I am thoroughly impressed, and not so much with Sony's LCDs.

Are you sure a 40" SXRD is too far out of your price range? That's an amazing display.

I am a big fan of Sony's LCD line (the Bravia sets in particular). The new 1080p sets are the best on the market in my opinion. Also, the mura that was reported at AVS is not associated with the 40' and/or smaller sets. Bravia gets my vote over ANY other LCD set on the market (and PLASMA).

This being said, for the last two weeks I have been tweaking the small SHARP. Look here:
http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=86102

...to see how it compares to the Bravia. They are very close indeed. I don't like the exterior design but many here don't care about it anyhow.

Can I ask what will you be using the set for? Gaming, films, both...?

I think the smallest SXRD is 50", but I believe that the 50A2000 can be had for a great price at this point if you shop around. As an SXRD owner, I agree that these sets are fantastic.

I just got a Sony 32 KDLU2000, and it's pretty impressive, not as perfect as my Sony 34 XBR 200 pound HDTV, but it's still pretty nice.

I have a questions about screen size options, can someone help me out?

1. This Sony 32 KDLU2000 only allows Wide, Smart, Normal, 14/9, and Zoom. Now, I'm not exactly sure if I have discovered all the Screen technical efficiency combos on this TV, but so far the only way to watch DVDs normally on this TV is using the Zoom option - is this what they call the 3:2 pulldown? It looks pretty good zoomed, but for some DVDs, I can see a tiny bit of the effect of being zoomed. Is this the only way to normally watch DVDs on this TV? For example, the Wide option is too to vertically scruntched, the Smart option is somewhere between Wide and Zoom which still has a bit of the scruntched effect. The Normal is just 4:3 letterbox or square. And the 14/9 leaves vertical black bars on the left and right side. The Zoom option is okay for English movies, but if I have to watch foreign movies, the subtitles usually go off the screen. That doesn't seem right. I have the feeling I'm not fully taking advantage of the normal High Definition set-up when watching anamorphic dvds. Usually, im very tv techy, but I feel like I'm either doing something wrong or this is just one of the negatives with this LCD tv? Can anyone help?

If the wide option is scrunching your dvds, you probably didn't set the DVD player to output to a 16x9 menu.

In most players, you press either display or menu while a disc is stopped (or there is none in) and you can get to the display settings menu etc. and change it from 4:3 tv to 16:9.

Josh, thanks, I just fixed it. My DVD player wasn't set up correctly. And now, this HDTV is the best I've ever seen. It's even better than my CRT HTDV. I was already accepting the quality as good with DVDs zoomed in, now it's eye-popping. I can imagine that the Sony LCD 3000 is just as good. I really prefer Sony HDTV the best. And I've seen LCDs from Samsung, Panasonic, Philips and Sharp, but I really think that Sony has the best video quality ever! Samsung gives this smeary effect. Panasonic gives a sort of grainy effect. Philips just sucks ass, because they make live-action movies look like soap opera/ home video(removing the cinematic effect - do people like this? All I can imagine this effect good for is nature DVDs, Sports DVDs, and Porn) . And Sharp is pretty good, right under Sony, but I think Sony gets extra points.
