My DVD RAM discs are becoming Protected and I cannot unprotect
 

Hi, I hope a tech guy here will be able to help with a problem I have.

I have 2 Panasonic DVD recorders of different ages and have recently had a problem with discs. The models are DMR- ES10 (the newer one) and DMR-E20 (the older).

Recently, some of the discs I have used in the older unit are being read as protected, and I cannot unlock them. If I put them in the newer unit they are read as empty and recordable discs with no problem.

Can anyone think of a way I can make them useable in the older unit again? Because they are locked I cannot even format them, because it says they are protected.

I am hoping someone knows of some software I can use to reformat the discs for use in a DVD recorder. I shall be pleased to hear any suggestions.

This should have been posted in the DVD Hardware forum, not Tech Talk.


The disc(s) are write protected. Do the following with the disc in the drive:

Using the remote: Functions Button---> Disc Setting---> Disc Protection---> On/Off

Select Off & then you can format.

Do you still have your user manual(s)?

I've got an E80H. Haven't used it in eons , but I fired it up to find the correct sequence to unprotect a disc.

However in answer to your post, yes I have the manual and yes i have tried to format, and to remove the protection, but these actions are not accepted, hence "I cannot unlock them".

You probably just want to remove the sheath before placing the unit into the cavity of the recorder. However, if you are going to refrain from using protection, just remember to eject the disc before finalizing.
