That is a pic of my first home theater back in 2000.
I bought that zenith dvd player from mercata.com with 5 free dvds
then bought the receiver from 800.com! the receiver was an upgrade to a dolby pro-logic surround sound system that i bought from bradlees on clearance. that surround sound system kept dropping in price so i brought in my receipt like 3 times for price adjustments.
The good ol days!

That was the 2nd progressive scan dvd player that best buy ever carried! A jvc that cost 600 bucks new. Hooked up to the 27" samsung EDTV 480p which was $1000 new. this was probably back in 2001. notice the tv is rigged for a "matte" system where i would place black velvet covered pieces of cardboard over the screen to mask out the "unused space" when watching letterboxed films. This gave the appearance of an image floating in the darkness with no light overspill on the screen. worked great but my new screens were to big to implement this same concept.

about a year later I upgraded to this 50" toshiba. IT was a good tv until it started turning green for no good reason. best buy couldnt fix it so they gave me a new 51" in 2005 before my extended warranty expired. I sold it to upgrade to my hd70 optoma projector with 100" screen.

That's an interesting evolution. Looks great. Although, you really should dust off your components and get a can of air to spray inside the receiver. Other than that, great collection. I especially got a kick out of your "matte screen" solution.

Yes, I would agree with interesting....

Is that a can of "green tea" sitting on top of our PJ? Also looks like a little wire management is in order.

its actually a can of pink lemonade. its used to level the projector. no joke. its the perfect size. the wires dangling from the projector tilt it a bit and that fixed it up. i live in a rental house and don't really want to make too many holes and such. plus the only place i can run the power for the projector is in the room behind it so its kinda hard to clean up the wires.

I only have HD DVDs (no blu-ray's yet), but I think if I were to buy both formats, I would keep them segregated (HD DVDs get their own section, as well as the blu-ray's get their own section, too).
