suggestions/sound

Hi all. Just got a Sharp 37" Aquos (LC37D43U) hooked up via HDMI to my Sony DVD player (DVP-NS75H). Picture is perfect, sound is just OK thru the set, but really have to kick it up, depends on the sound mix of the DVD. Any suggestions as to a decent quality/decent price sound system to run this thru? Many thanks. And thanks to all who steered me to Monoprice.com for my HDMI cable, super great price and super fast shipping. Again thanks.

We would need a budget to make any kind of recommendations. What size room? Any original equipment that you will be using?

Yes, on a budget. I know there are people who are all about the SOUND. And I want good sound. But I am trying to spend under $500.00. Approx dim 12x15 but this is the living room portion of a whole open area which includes the kitchen and dinning room. Again many thanks for any input.

Seems like everyone wants a surround system for $500 these days.

I actually hope to spend no more than $300.00 maybe $400.00, I hope, by getting really good deals. $500.00 is max but I don't think I'll have to go there.

Really don't think I need/want 7.1. Think that probably 5.1 willl be fine.

that thread has a lot of good suggestions.

my receiver is 7.1, but i only use 5.1

look at the velodyne set if you really want to get a decent low price system. it is mentioned in that thread.
