Is my DVD player worn out/broken?

I put this on tech talk but thought it might get more traffic here....

I have had a Toshiba SD-2805 5 disc changer for 5 years and this morning it started acting weird. The remote control would partially work some of the time so I replaced the batteries twice and still got the same result. Then when I would put a disc in the movie would play but the visual display on the actual player would be stuck on a certain track and time for the duration of the movie (For example, It showed Chapter 2 7:35 for the whole movie).
It's never given me any problems before and after 5 years, is it just worn out? Is there anything I can do or should I just get a new one? If I do get a new one, what kind of DVD player can I get that will play my current DVDs. Thanks for any help. Anyone ever had this problem?

I don't understand that question.

When my Sony player went out a few years ago the disc would spin around but it just wouldn't load. The picture would stay with the dvd menu.

I ended up getting rid of it on Ebay and got $45 for it (I clearly stated it was broken and what was wrong with it).

Don't know if any of that helps you or not.

Strangely enough, most DVD players will play DVDs.

HAve you taken good care of the remote? SOunds more like a remote issue than a player issue. On my old cyberhome player, I had remote issues like your having now. It used to do crazy things...

Is there something "special" about your current DVD's?
