In Built HD Tuner or Separate Set Top Box ?

I'm almost definitely going to get a Panasonic Plasma

The only decision now is whether to get a model with an intergrated HD Tuner or to get a separate Set top box with the tuner ?

Well which suits your purposes better? Your budget for your TV will dictate which you can afford.

You're automatically looking at the higher end Panny models if you're looking for cablecard and QAM tuner.

not necessarily true. he is talking about consumer v. commercial models.

commercial models are almost exactly the same except you get no tuner, HDMI connection (separate purchase), speakers or stand. they are made to be installed in places like bars and you purchase what you need "a la carte".

i wish i would have actually gone this route. i don't use my TV speakers at all, even though i thought i would. I don't need a built in tuner since i have a Tivo S3 which has 2 tuners built in, and I am hanging it on my wall so I had no need for the stand.

the cablecard IS the higher model (600U). if you are going that route than you have no choice.
