Replacing DVD Player Motor?

I have a Coby portable DVD player that I have worn the motor out in. It's only a year old and I don't want to get rid of it just yet. Is it possible to just replace the motor? If so, how hard is it to do? And is it even worth the trouble?

It's probably not worth the trouble with how cheap those things are going for now, but I'd see if you couldn't score a relatively cheap used dvd drive and scavenge the motor from it. No guarantee it will fit or work.

I can't see how this could even be worth it.

ah... he he, I JUST threw a way two older DVD players... oh well. I do have one that has a power issue and it won't come on (it's an APEX).

This is a portable DVD player. The drive motor he wants is probably closer to a laptop optical drive size, not a standalone player size.

By the time you buy the motor and get it fixed, you could have purchased a brand new one, and possibly a movie to go with it.

Can I make a suggestion please? It seems to me that you have spent the equivalent dollars in "cheap" players as to what a Sony or Toshiba player would have cost.

Maybe try getting something in the 60-70 dollar range that might last a little longer?

One was a Sony, the other was a Philips. They both cost me over $150, so I don't think brand matters.
