How are your HD sources hooked up?
In order to take advantage of HD, you need to connect an HD source to a TV that supports HD [720p-1080i-1080p], using one of the below methods:
HDMI
DVI (video only)
Component video
If you've got it connected one of those ways, and your TV supports an HD resolution, you should be ok. "HD"ness is more obvious on some material than others. How far away are you sitting?

Check the settings in your HDDVD player. You may have it set to the wrong resolution. And are you sure you are watching the HD channel for TV? How do you get your HD channels?
