quality loss in dvi to hdmi cable

is there any? may be the difference in me buying an oppo 970 or 971

And if there is loss that is inherent to all connections, I seriously doubt that you would ever notice it.

They are the same cable. DVI just doesn't have the wires for audio.

There are no separate wires for audio in HDMI cables.
The data is sent in packets down the same wires. DVI inputs just throw any audio packets away.

Allow me to revise my post and say that they are the same cable, only DVI does not have the pins for audio on the end.

Well, there are actually 3 different pinouts for DVI, and one of them includes (I think) 4 wires for analog audio. But it isn't used by any system for home theater, so it still just throws away the digital audio.
