Without knowing your total budget and room specs it is hard to give an opinion.
The only comment I have is that it appears you are short changing yourself on the audio portion of your system. You have chosen a really nice tv, dvd player and receiver. Why that speaker system? |
room size is about 16' x 14' and budget is $3500-4000.
|
Well the total I get excluding shipping is roughly 3K. Is there a restriction on the type and kind of speakers you can use? I think you have room in your budget to have higher quality audio.
|
no real restriction on the speakers, nothing monsterous though. any suggestions?
|
I agree with Brian. Upgrade the speakers. Try some NHT SuperZeros on for size.
|
Are you planning on buying from Amazon or are those link just for reference?
Do you have any local audio/video stores near you? If so you should go buy and listen to some speakers with your own material. Some brands to consider would be B&W, Paradigm, NHT, Polk, Boston Acoustics, Mirage. You should also consider a dedicated sub from companies like SVS or HSU. |
I just purchased the Samsung HL-S6187W 61" DLP HDTV and I absolutely would suggest buying a Samsung DLP. The picture is unbelivable, blacks are black, color is bright and the picture is clear. I did notice the Rainbow effect but that was only because I was trying to see it otherwise you really don't notice it. The menu and setup are easy. The video inputs are plenty and the TV looks even better in your own house. The TV was easily moved by my wife and I. For the price not many TV's will beat it.

Agree. I have an AVR-330 and have been pleased with it for a couple years now (refurb, btw). However, HK is not a speaker company - I would stay away from them if I were you. However, what Brian later posted seems to be a bit more on the high end so there is a large difference between the $300 you have laid out and what he suggests. Depends on how much extra you want to spend on speakers and which model(s) you pick from those companies since they all do have ranges (high to low). |
Yup, I agree with the others.
Go with different speakers. Add KEF to the other "usual suspects" already mentioned. |
let me ask you this
what kind of wiring do i need to get the best out of this set up? The reciever and dvd player do not have hdmi inputs. would a dvi-to-hdmi adapter be the best thing for the dvd player or the dvi output that comes with it. what about the reviever, would there be a loss in quality in going from the tv to the reciever without hdmi? if so is there an adapter? would i be better off getting a reciever with hdmi? if so any suggestions for a reasonable price ($500 or less). should i decide to build a speaker set up piece by piece, what are the recommended starting speakers ( bookshelves, bookshelves and center, bookshelves and center and sub, etc etc). would two quality bookshelves be better than a home theatre speaker set of comperable price (initally around $500) thanks for all the help you guys have been great |
