How big a TV should I get?

I'm looking at the Samsung line of 1080p DLP HDTVs. I sit about 11 feet from the screen. I'm leaning toward the 56 inch. Would that be too large? The 50 inch and the 61 inch are both other options.

Sit closer or get an 80 inch tv. Generally you want to sit about 1.5x the distance from the tv as the screen size.

Well, 1.5x is pretty close. SMPTE calculation comes out around 1.8x, and many, many people prefer 2.0x. And that's times screen width, btw. (not diag)

Get the largest set you can afford that also doesn't look out of place in your room (if that is a concern). The Samsung 1080p DLPs are goregous TVs - even the 61 inch model will look amazing at 11 feet. I agree with Dave on this one :)

I will admit that I am a guy that sits in the front row.

It seems like they generally say that you want to the screen to take up about 30% of your field of vision. I think 50% is better.

And I can't think of one person I have ever heard say, "I wish I had gone with the smaller tv."

GO BIG!!! :D

I sit about 11 feet from my 100" screen. If you can do a test view so much the better. I agree with the sentiment that you should get the biggest you can comfortably view.

I'm about 10 feet from my Samsung 50" and it's big. I wouldn't do any bigger than the 56"

There are times I wish my set was smaller, but it's more from a "The TV is overpowering the whole room perspective", than a "the screen itself is too big perspective"
