SONY XBR 34" 970 good buy?

I"ve been looking at this product for a few years now and hear it has a great picture at a great price. 950.00 and seems to go down in price every year. Should I grab one before they go out of production or wait and see how much further it goes down in price?

While Sony direct view HDTV CRTs are probably one of the best HD pictures around, I would think that $1k would be better spent on a flat panel display and not a 200lb monster.

I'm sure this has a very nice picture, but I wouldn't confuse this w/ the 960. The 970 does not have the super-fine-pitch tube that the 960 had, iirc.

It has a great price and I am still in the camp that you can get the best HD picture out of CRT television.

You most likely have confused the 970 with the 960 as the previous poster stated. 970 is no upgrade to the 960, though still a very nice unit. Back in Feb, our tv broke and we needed a new one, we got the 955N, sister to the 960 for $700 refurb'ed. Still love the set, though the prices on lcds have dropped to the point that if our tv broke today, I'd get a 32"-37" lcd instead. The Sony line 960 and 955 sometimes had some geometry issues that cannot be resolved by tech or service menu. It's just the way it is for that size tube, just so you know.
