Problem With My HDTV

I have a 2 year old Sony 58" 16:9 Hi Def RPTV. Recently it has been doing something very annoying. Whenever there is a bright object on the screen and the scene fades to black, a very faint image of the bright object remains on the black screen. It is very faint, almost vike a visual residue. That's the best way I can describe it. As soon as the next scene appears, the image is wiped away, almost like an etch-a-scetch. Has this happened to anyone and how can I fix this? It happens on DVD and watching regular HDTV. It's not a huge deal, as I only notice it a few times per movie, but it still annoys me. Thanks

Its called ghosting and is completly normal with some TV's while it may be a sign of ageing on other TV's. Plasma screens are especially susceptible to ghosting, especially early models. The current generation of Plasma's are much less susceptible to ghosting and burn in.

I am not sure what the symptoms are of an ageing rear projection and this could be completly normal. If it wasnt happening the first couple years you had your TV I would assume that it is just one of the signs your TV is getting older.

Yeah it is happening with my 3 week old Sony 34 inch tube. Very prevalent when I watched UNFORGIVEN last night.

Just curious. What is the source when you see this stuff?

Not sure exactly what you mean by source. Do you mean DVD or TV show? It happens for both.

Yep, that's what I meant. Sometimes I see DVD players or other things that seem to leave a bit of image for a second. Video games are notorious. But sounds like it's your TV doing it.
