connecting a onkyo tx-ds494

I have a tx-ds494 and hd digital cable. I'm rather confused on how to connect the cable box to the reciever and the tv. do I connect both video and audio. what connectors do I use on the deviced. the cable box supports both a fiber and composite connection. as does the tv, the reciever does't support fiber.

Help and Thanks

What do you mean by "fiber"? It seems as though you are talking about video, and there is no fiberoptic video connections right now.

If those are your only devices, you should be able to run audio to the receiver and video to the TV. The cable box likely has an optical audio output. The receiver appears to have one optical input. Maybe this is what you meant by fiber. This would give you Dolby Digital audio from HDTV shows, and should do all the regular stereo analog channels, too.

And then you can run the video to the TV directly, it doesn't have to go through the receiver. Likely you have an HDMI or DVI output that can go to the TV. You at least will have a component video output from an HD cable box. Any of these 3 should work great for getting HD signals to the TV.
