HDMI Help

Sorry, originally I posted this in the HD Talk area, but upon further review I thought it might belong here more...

I had purchased the Monoprice 24AWG gauge HDMI cable in a 15 ft. length for a cable run from my Monoprice HDMI switcher to my TV, however it may wind up being too short. If that is the case, would you recommend staying at that gauge or going to the 22AWG gauge if I needed to increase the length of the cable?

If 15 ft. isn't long enough, then it probably wouldn't be much more than 17ft. However, 25 ft. is the next longest length monoprice sells. If I stay at the same gauge or go higher, will I need a repeater?

Thanks.

Either gauge should be fine, but since the prices are so low, I would go with the 22 to be safe. I have the 50 foot monoprice 22 awg and it is great.

I have the 25' 24AWG. No problems.

Thanks guys, so at 25 ft. with 22AWG I shouldn't need a repeater then?

So, no one cares to theorize whether or not I will need a repeater? For those who did respond saying they used the longer Monoprice HDMI runs, do you use a repeater or a switch that has a repeater? I believe the Monoprice 5x1 Enhanced HDMI Switch with built-in Equalizer does not have a repeater built-in?

I've been using a Monoprice 25' DVI-D to M1 cable with 24AWG. It passes 848x480p just fine. I don't know about higher resolutions. No repeater.

I don't use a repeater with the 35 foot cable (I said 50 before, oops). You won't need a repeater for either gauge.

OK. That's comforting, which is what I was looking for, a little reassurance. :) Thanks, guys.

I need a 3-6 ft HDMI cable, but I'm not very familiar with the differences in AWG. I see that monoprice has the 28AWG for $5-6, and the 24AWG for ~$15-16. Is there going to be a noticable difference between 28AWG and 24AWG?

TIA

No. Perhaps at 15' I would start thinking about the 24AWG. No need at 3-6'.

Well i have a sony 30 inch HDTV. I dont have any hookups for it as of yet. I have my xbox 360 hooked up in hd. I want to be able to hook in my DVR hd digital to my tv and also hook up a HD selector box to hook up my video games. What would you recommend

Spiky 09-26-06 02:18 PM

Are you talking about using all component video or some HDMI?
