Will 16 Gauge Speaker Wire Improve Sound Quality?

I have a question about the sound quality in regards to the types of speaker wires being used with my system. I have a Sony Surround System and I'm currently using the generic wires that come with the system. If I change these wires to 16 gauge Phillips speaker wire will it improve sound quality?

The wire that came with the Sony system should be fine. I wouldn't waste any money on upgrading the wire. I am one of "those" guys who thinks that cable is a worthwhile investment (I have $500 speaker cables, expensive power cords, etc.), but I don't think the Sony system would benefit from the change.

I agree 100%.

Thanks for the responses to my question. The reason I asked is that after I run some wire through my walls and attic for some speaker plates I'll have a bit left over. I didn't know if it would be worth my while to switch the wires out. Thanks again for the responses.

If your system has those spring-loaded clips for speaker connections, 16AWG might not even fit.
