Denon 2910 $550 at Tweeter

Good deal on this player, brand new @Tweeter. The 2910 (Black) model has been discontinued. The 2910-S (silver) model will likely be discontinued soon too, but since the blacks are more plentiful, they are being discontinued first.

Call your local Tweeter or other retailer to see if they have these at discounted prices, my local Tweeter is selling this for $550.

I just bought one at Best Buy last week for $567 (after 10% coupon, regular price there at Magnolia is $629.99).

Good deal on a good player. I paid $700 when the 2910 came out and have loved it. I'm sure Spiky will point this out, so I'm going to beat him to it: the 2910 is NOT the successor to the 2900. The 2900, although it doesn't upconvert, is a far superior player. The 3910 is the successor to the 2900.

All in all, great deal on a great player.

There was a time when I could've moved from the 2900 to the 3910 for probably less than $300 net. I decided not to, I'm not really sure it would've been an upgrade. Silicon Image de-interlacer vs upconversion, probably a toss-up.

I'd probably buy the 2910 over the Toshiba A1 HDDVD player right now if I was shopping.

I love this player. Paid $700 for it and have no regrets. If you are serious about your DVDs I would definitely recommend this.

I've been on the fence about the 2900 for a long time. Based on the reviews I've read and the fact that I'd like a single universal player, I hear the 3910 is tough to beat unless you get into the real high-end range. Can anybody offer any valid comparisons between the 2900 and 3910?

That is exactly what I did.
Even though the Toshiba is still cheaper, it's first gen and buggy.
I am very happy with this player. The audio and video is to die for, I noticed both immediately on the first dvd I put in. I love it so much, I'm wearing the crap out of it. I've probably watched about 30 movies on it already since I got it last week. I'm throwing everything at it my other players had issues with and it's just phenomenal!

In features, the 3910 has the 2900 all beat. Upconversion, HDCD, better bass management, DenonLink, etc. The 2900 is just as good on audio, except the lesser bass management makes setup trickier, I imagine. But the 2900 has a film-source deinterlacer that has to be seen to be appreciated. (should a player bring tears to your eyes?) It just knocks everything else out, unless you want to acquire a nice Realta scaler. The 3910 will be much better for video sources (and nearly as good for film) with its Faroudja deinterlacer, though, so it may depend on your viewing habits and your TV. My TV has an excellent video deinterlacer (Faroudja 2310), so I use the TV for video sources and the 2900 for film sources.

I believe the 3910 is still generally at retail of $1500. If you can find a 2900 for 1/3 the price, that may be a better value. These are the about the 2 best all-around players ever.

Here's a quick rating, 2900 then 3910:

Audio..................8,8 (try Norah Jones SACD)
Film DVDs............9,8
Video DVDs..........5,9
Operability.........10,10 (speed)
Build...................8,9
Setup features.....8,9

I'm guessing the 2910 is about here in comparison, also an excellent machine:

Audio..................7
Film DVDs............8
Video DVDs..........9
Operability.........10
Build...................6
Setup features.....7
