LTV-27w2 + DVD Player Question...

I bought a Westinghouse LTV-27w2 back in November and I'm looking for a DVD Player - many of you will say get an Oppo, but I already did, and unfortunately I couldn't find any big difference between my old JVC DVD/VHS Player and the Oppo. I emailed the Oppo Customer Service and they basically said the the technology in my Westinghouse is "technically" the same technology in their player and that would be the reason I wasn't seeing any drastic changes with the picture quality. And also, I had some serious macroblocking and chroma errors with the Oppo player. At first I thought it was my Television, but I just watched "The Fifth Element" in HD (Comcast On Demand) and I saw no chroma errors or macroblocking. So now i'm looking for a DVD Player for my Westinghouse as i've just returned the Oppo. Any suggestions?

P.S. I also emailed Westinghouse and they told me to also find a player that can upconver to 720p... but as you can see i've already tried that. There's a store that sells the Samsung DVD-HD850 for $139.00 (and I would have to purchase a hdmi-to-dvi connector) and I was thinking about checking that out (i'm free to return it if I don't like it, no restocking fee, no questions, full refund), but i've noticed many people here have picked the Oppo over that as well, so I guess if the Oppo is "better" than the Samsung, then I guess I shouldn't waste my time, since I didn't results with that.

Any suggestions? Should I just get a regular old Progressive Scan DVD Player? Any suggestions on what to get? Also, I was at the store, what's this "Advanced Progressive Scan"? Is it just a fancier name?

Any help would be appreciated.
