hooking up polk 6900 speakers to a yamaha 5890 help needed
Just connecting up my first audio receiver and have a few questions
The polk manual says that the front L & R speakers connect to the subwoofers output and the subwoofer connects to the receiver. is that the way most subwoofers are connected to the receiver ? It then says the settings for the receiver are Front L & R = Large Subwoofer = Off This sounds correct ? just wanted to check before I connect it all up :) Thanks |
That is one way but I would not do it. I would connect the speakers directly and the sub to the sub out on the receiver.

If so, is a sub cable "special"? I don't have one around, but I do have a cable that would work, wondering whether I should buy one tailored for hooking up the sub. |
I bought a rca cable and connected it that way (sub out to LFE in).
Seems to work just fine. I'll test it out over the next day or so :) Thanks |
Is there something wrong with hooking the L/R speakers through the sub (or something better about doing it the other way)? It's the way I setup mine, just as the OP mentioned. Now I'm wondering if I should re-wire. I prefer to let the receiver's crossover decide how to distribute the signal rather than sending all the signal to the sub and letting its crossover do the job. What kind of subwoofer and what kind of receiver do you have? |

Thanks for the help. I might buy a sub cable (or just use an RCA I have sitting around) to see if it makes any audible difference. |
Ok read the section that is contained in the users manual for the sub for a better explanation.

http://www.4electronicwarehouse.com/...a/ystsw215.pdf On a weird note, unless I misplaced it, I don't think I ever got that manual with my sub. Odd. But thanks again for the link. |
