Looking for switcher for use between monitor and InFcous X-1

Could ask in the computing forum, but I'm assuming someone here running a HTPC here has probably been down this route, so I'll try here.

I'm looking for something that would basically serve the opposite functionality of a KVM switch. I would like to send my monitor output to more than one destination. Basically, I want the output to go to my desktop monitor when working on computer applications (Word, e-mail, etc.), but to be able to switch to my InFocus X-1 whenver using it for home theatre applications (streaming the Replay, DVD watching, divX, etc.).

Does such a switch exist??? I'm afraid that the constant plugging and unplugging from the computer's video card will eventually cause it damage, and this seems it would be the simplest solution.

As always, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

What output are you using on the video cart? When I use my computer in the living room I have the S-video out going to the TV and the DVI going to the monitor. I go into the video settings and set it to theater mode. Then I can use the monitor for PC stuff while any video content is routed directly to the TV. Someone with more HTPC experience than I could answer better, I'm certain.

Brian-

Unfortunately, thats the exact opposite of what I need. I want something that will let me switch between two outputs instead of inputs. And the X1 only has a Composite, S-video, and Monitor in ports...not HDMI.

AGuyNamed Mike-

I could use the S-Video output, but that would limit me to 480p capability on the projector. Yes, I know the 720p and 1080i capabilities are only emulated on the x1, but I still do believe they look better than the 480p. Hence, my wish to stick with the monitor output.

What you want is a VGA splitter, you can then send a quality signal to both the monitor and the projector. Here is what looks like a decent one for $69 from cables to go:

Here is a little bit cheaper one without the audio feature which you dont need:

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, cseyer!
