Anybody have any experience with this model or similar models? I'm looking for what would be the pros and cons for this set.

It's on sale for $2499 ($300 off $2799) this week.

What brand? Akai?

I'd be leery of anything that isn't a name brand, however Costco has by far the best return policy in the business, so it's pretty low risk if you decide to buy it.

Akai is a good brand. It is the same exact company/design of the Samsung models. I have an Akai TV and its the exact same as my friends Samsung who paid 100s more.

Don't know how big you want, but this is a good deal at Costco, it evidently is $2,500 with cart and with the "in store flyer coupon".

Not what I've heard. These cheapie Korean and Chinese knock offs don't have the same quality as some of the bigger name brands. To each their own, I guess. But like I said, buying something like this at Costco is pretty much no risk due to their return policy.

Ditto...they are cheaper for a reason....they use cheaper parts.

Yes, with some brands you pay a bit for name, but moreso, you pay for superior parts.

Though, my definition and your definition of "same" may be very different.

I was considering the 50" version last year. I had it narrowed between the Panny and the Sony. IMHO, it was a toss up.

Which did I actually get? Neither. Decided to build my HT room with and now have a 94" DIY screen, front pj and everthing else I needed (paint, wood, etc) for about the same money.
