Question about audio outputs (coax. or optical) on HD/EDTV's

So if i was to connect the coax out or optical output from a EDTV or HDTV to my receiver would I get sound using standard cable or are the digital outputs only for a high def signal?

That probably depends on your specific TV. If it converts the analog audio for output on its digital output, it will work. All it takes is a minute to test it out.
