Onkyo 575 sub woofer line output low

i have had an onkyo 575 for some years now and have just recently purchased a 10" powered sub woofer to play with.

my main speakers are already quite large and have 2 x 10" drivers in them.
i am finding that the sub level output is very low, i have to have to sub turned to the max and the level out up to +10 to hear anything with the main volume on about 45-50. i have even tried the THX optimizer and the sub woofer test and there is nothing coming out but a very very low level sound...

is there an issue with the 575 ???
anyone have any suggestions ???
i am going to try a friends dual 12" sub to see if that works any better

i have also been having the problem where the unit looses its settings in that if i turn if off at the power and back on, the speaker settings are all messed up (i read about the chip issue and will look into that later)

What about your crossover settings?

the sub woofer has a filter control, i have tried various settings while playing around with the THX optimzer.. made no difference.
the amp doesn't really seem to have any settings exepct on and off.

the sub does seem to be a little louder when i connect it directly to the component out of the dvd, however the volume is also very limited this way (i would assume a limitation of the dvd player).

i will test the system with another sub to get a better idea and hopefully try and take my sub to a friends to test it there.

Your sub and your reciever have crossover settings. All do.

1. Did you reconfigure your receiver to tell it there is now a subwoofer?

2. Did you set all your speakers to "small" on the receiver (even the "quite large" ones)?

3. Did you set the crossover frequency properly (no lower than 80Hz, but try even higher to start)?

4. Is the cable properly connected between the subwoofer ("LFE") output on the receiver and the line input (Left/Mono) on the sub?

5. Is the crossover on the sub set to the highest frequency setting (effectively disabling it, so that the receiver crossover setting takes precedence)?

1. Did you reconfigure your receiver to tell it there is now a subwoofer?
-> receiver set to subwoofer = yes

2. Did you set all your speakers to "small" on the receiver (even the "quite large" ones)?
-> speakers set to front = large, center = large, rear = small
(is there an issue with the 575 and it's pre-programmed settings ?)

3. Did you set the crossover frequency properly (no lower than 80Hz, but try even higher to start)?
-> where is the setting for this ??

4. Is the cable properly connected between the subwoofer ("LFE") output on the receiver and the line input (Left/Mono) on the sub?
-> cable connected correctly.

5. Is the crossover on the sub set to the highest frequency setting (effectively disabling it, so that the receiver crossover setting takes precedence)?
-> sub crossover set to max. have played with a variety of settings to test it out, makes no difference.

Set them all to small and try it. The test discs tend to send the sub signal through the fronts, so if you have them set to large, the sub gets nada.
