cheapest way to have a standalone dvr?

I am in need of an additional tuner for this fall and I don't really want to add another dtivo since it would require me buying more than just another recorder. I already have 2 so I'm tapped on additional dtivo connections. I know I could just get a standalone tivo or replay but was wondering if there is a cheaper way to do it? if not, I'll prob. just get a standalone tivo since I have never seen a replay in action.

If the $100 rebate is still on, then a standalone Tivo is probably going to be the cheapest route.

I take it this is just for OTA signals, not HD. Why not a DVD-R with HDD? They aren't real cheap, but are now under $500. There won't be any monthly payments. Plus, you can archive.

You could also go for a Panny with DVD-RAM. Not as easy, but possible to do this. Their latest model does much better with the 4 hour setting and is only $200.

ReplayTV 5504 for $39.99 (you'll have to pay a monthly fee of course).

Go to the ReplayTV Website. Select the 5504 model. Enter 'SAVE40' as a promotion code for 40% off. That will knock it down to $89.99.

Get $50 rebate to knock it down to $39.99.:
