Leaving CRT RPTV on with no signal

my parents are in the habit of, when after watching TV to just turn off the cable box and not the TV itself. The screen is totally black(no numbers or channel labels are on screen-no burn-in). Is this bad and will it lessen the TV's life?

I would think so. While I've never seen an analysis of the effects of this, the tubes are still on which would shorten their life.
