check out samsung. I was going to get a 26" hdtv for around 500 from circuit city recently, but when I saw it in person, I decided to buy a 30" for 950. Samsungs have everything you need.

If you can find one of those 30" Sanyos in stock at Wal-Mart, I would pass it up.

B.A. probably means would NOT pass it up :)

The Sony 30" just went under $800. I think I saw it on FatWallet. But Toshiba's 30" is under $800 as well. The Sony is amazing, the Toshiba merely excellent :)

Thanks for the suggestions,

I think I saw the 26 in samsung you were talking about, and the picture was amazing on it. Very tempted to get it at that price.

30 in sony is also very tempting under $800.

I'm a newbie to this, what are some potential problems that I might have to worry about with these tvs? I've heard something about image burn?

good deal if u ask me... and a lil nicer than the crt's...

By the way... i had a 30HF84 from Toshiba... very nice CRT HD Tv, but i promise you will regret the CRT after a while...

Not so sure that is nicer than the CRTs. Unless depth is an issue. IMO, LCDs are just starting to be watchable. I'll be looking at one in the 23-27" range early next year as depth IS an issue.

I too would vote Samsung for a good price/performance ratio on tube TVs.

If anybody is curious I ended up getting a 26in Samsung for 530 pre tax, I'm happy with my purchase.

A local CompUSA here in Detroit has a nice stock of Philips 30" units they're clearancing out for $499. YMMV.
