Did my DVD player break?

today when i tried to turn it on... it wouldnt turn on. It just shows the red light like if its on standby. When i try to turn it on, the red light goes off for a second and i can see on my tv that its trying to play but it shuts off 1 second after... am i going to need a new dvd player?

Since it's only a $50 player, I'd say yes, you need a new one. Even if it was something that could be fixed, it's probably not worth the effort or cost.

It doesn't sound good, but one thing you might try is unplugging it for about half an hour to see if it resets itself.

it's fucked... i unplugged it for like 3 hours, and it still did it. Oh well i bought a new one for 180$ The thing is i had a dvd in my dvd player, i had slacker CC in it How the fuck am i suppost to get it out of the tray LOL

If the player is screwed anyway, take the cover off and see what it'll take to get the DVD tray open. If the drive is completely enclosed, there's usually a manual release of some kind on the underside of it. Think of it as a fun weekend project.

Well out of 90-day warranty. I don't know if you desire to deal with the one year limited price exchange that Philips does, especially with a $50-60 player. I have this very model and had to exchange it after about a week. I like the functionality of it (DIVX, MP3, multiregion, PAL to NTSC, plays anything I throw at it), so I would just go buy another one if it died.
