Check out the International DVD forum here. Lots of threads on this very subject. For upconverter multi-region (which I'm looking for too) I think there are essentially 2 choices: Momitsu V880DX and Oppo 971H. Both are not in stores -- but readily found mail-order for $200-250. Be warned -- if you post this message as written here in that forum, you're likely to be ignored or told to read the other posts (at DVDTalk and Avsforums).

I would suggest searching around for information regarding DVD players.

The Oppo OPDV971H has generally good feedback, support is extremely responsive, and the player is extremely capable. It is region-free, and supports PAL-NTSC conversion.

I would recommend buying from amazon rather then extremephono, as that is buying from Oppo digital rather then Extremephono, and you generally recieve better support and access to stuff like Beta firmwares before they are released to the public.

In recent times, it seems the Oppo has resolved alot of it's issues around signal strength and many of their bugs. With the beta firmware, it features better PQ then the Momitsu, and is of higher quality manafacture.

I'd go with the Oppo or maybe the zenith dvb-318. Though the Oppo seems to have regular firm-ware upgrade and I hear that they are fixing the Y/C delay problem on them in the latest.
