refurbished items
 

hi, i just bough a manufacturer refurbished sony SLV-N750 vcr from ubid, first of all is there anything wrong with buying refurbished items, especially refurbished from sony, second i got this for $47 shipped, should i get a warranty for $6 or $10 for 1 or 2 years respectively.

Frequently there never was anything wrong with refurbished items. Once it's opened, if it's returned for any reason an authorized dealer is supposed to send it back to the manufactuer, who checks it to make sure it works properly, then seals it up and sells it as refurbished.

I've owned a number of refurbs from various manufacturers that have all performed (and lasted as long) as new. It's important to be certain the refurbs are coming from the manufacturer, however.

I would never buy a service contract on a <$50 VCR. Even if it craps out, making a claim and shipping the item and waiting weeks for it to come back wouldn't be worth the cost, to me. But I sup[pose if it was going to be in constant use I might gamble the $10, assuming the service contract came from a reputable vendor that wouldn't weasel out on the guarantee.

That would probably be my opinion too. I've bought several refurbished items in the past. In general, if they are substantially cheaper than new, then I figure it's worth the risk. If they are only a bit cheaper than new, I'll still consider them if there is a full warranty offered.

I hav bought several refurbished Items and all are still working and a few years old to me it is a great way to save a few bucks!
