Kenwood reciver
 

My Kenwood receiver VR-505 remote control doesn't work right anymore.When said rec.is turned on by remote and volume is adjusted,after a few minutes it won't do anything for the recever,no volume up or down,no turning the recever off,no anything.I have to get up to turn volume down or mute it or turn it off.As far as I know the remote is not damaged,no dropping it.Put new batteries in it and it still does it.I've had the Kenwood for a couple of years now and no trouble.Should I send the remote back to Kenwood?I would like to keep the remote and not use a universal one.Any thoughts? Well before sending it back you would want to try a universal remote and see if the same problem occurs to rule out the problem is the receiver and not the remote.

If it's the remote and the item is under warranty definately send it back. If it's not under warranty and they want something like $50+ for a new one it makes more sense to get a great universal remote like a Harmony 659 which is much more functional and which you can get for around $72 now.

Wow...I have the exact same problem, and I believe, the exact same unit....On mine, the remote won't work until I turn on the reciever, then wait/hope for a bit; then the remote will work briefly, intermittently. I've also tried new batteries, and I did try a universal learning remote, but it didnt' do anything [the fact that it cost 35 bucks might have something to do with that.]
I thought perhaps the remote was dead; then I thought like namlook says, maybe the reciever portion of the remote wasn't working [the receiver itself works fine], then I thought maybe there's some sort of weird interference with the other components/remotes I have there.
Mine isn't under warranty anymore, I've had it at least two years or so. I guess I should look into a *good* universal remote, but then we're talking *expensive* was well, because I'd want it to do everything [DVD, TV, DVR, Rec.] $72 bucks is good, I guess, for a good universal remote, but it's still expensive for a remote...although I'm seeing estimates around 100 bucks for it.

I just walked through the Harmony Test Drive thing, programming in one of their units. That is COOL. It looked like it handled every component I have, I can only assume/hope it offers full functionality for each of the components listed. The cost is almost made worthwhile merely by the ease of setup.

Where do you see the Harmony for ~75?
