Problem with Pioneer DV-K301C

Hi everyone.
My Pioneer DV-K301C has developed a fault which has affected the sound. The sound is very low even when the volume is very high. I don't know alot about dvd players, but I think the laser is dirty. So, I bought Hama DVD Lens Cleaner and tried it but it couldn't run on the DVD Player. It worked on other dvd players that I have tried though.

Help me to fix my Pioneer. Maybe the lens cleaner I bought is not compatible with my Pioneer?

And, btw, the Hama lens cleaner cd has two small brushes on it on the opposite sides.

Laser cleaning won't help volume. The laser pickup is digital. You either get the signal or you don't, or it's intermittent. The volume doesn't become weaker because it's not as bright.

Not only won't a lens cleaner fix your problem, it can damage your player. Lens cleaners: bad, bad, bad. (That's the sound of a little brush whacking your laser lens assembly a thousand times a second.)

I suspect there's a setting on the player or the receiver that got changed. What receiver do your have? How is the audio from the player connected to the receiver? Does the problem affect both DVDs and CDs? Is it present through both the digital and analog audio outputs?

More info, please.

Oh shite! I didn't know lens cleaners are bad

The problem affects both DVDs and CDs.
I don't know how the player is connected, because I didn't do it. I will find out and tell you later. I'm completely ignorant about dvd techie.

I called Sanyo/Fisher technical services today regarding a freezing problem I have been having with my dvd/ home theater player. They recommended purchasing a dvd lens cleaner (in addition to unpluggin it for 20 minutes to allow it to return to factory settings).

Bad? Really? Please elaborate.
