RS232 port and Yamaha RX-V2500

I want to control The Yamaha through my computer, volume ect. I am going to get a serial 9 pin for the RS-232 port to the serial on my computer. But what software program will allow me to control the Yamaha reciever ?

A free program would be great, but if its a good program i might buy it.

thanks for your help

I have rs-232 ports on several pieces of equipment and I have never seen a use for them much less any software.

I did not say that you couldn't.

I have seen these ports on many pieces of equipment over the years. I have even seen references to updates to firmware etc..

I have never actually seen anything done with them.

You might want to contact Yamaha directly and ask!

There's a module for use with Crestron control systems for this unit. That's the port's primary function: interfacing with high-end pro-type control systems from companies like AMX and Crestron.

There's no reason it couldn't be controlled from a PC. It's even possible you could adapt the Crestron code and write an applet to run it (might not be legal, though).

No idea if it's already been done.

I found this posted on another forum

http://www.yamaha.com/yec/dealers/dealer_download.htm

seems pretty intresting, thou doesn't seem like any software supports the RX-V2500. One does support the previous model 2400, i might try this out sometime.
