I'm In Love: Logitech Harmony 880 Remote

This was recently announced:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...CONTENTID=9933

Customizable color icons for the color LCD is just awesome! And the remote is so simple, with few buttons for less confusion, but yet very advanced when needed.

Yes, they had one at CES last month.

I signed up in early january on their site to get notified when it's available. Sure looks slick.

There's a thread about it over at avs:

Buncha morons on that forum, not to mention everything is so dark, it's hard to read anything.

However, thank God the user Fiasco set them straight on the Li-Ion battery info. Li-Ion batteries for that remote are going to be really nice, because it will hold a charge for quite a long time without needing recharging. Li-Ions are also great for high-power/burst power demand devices, such as remotes (and especially digital cameras and camcorders). The charging mechanism is slick. And they have very little memory effect compared to even NiMH batteries.

I remember when Marantz had their remotes back in the days, and I was a sucker and bought one. Absolutely the dumbest engineering when it came to power requirements. Their newer remotes, at $649 MSRP, have NiMH batteries, which is better than alkalines, but Jesus, they are STILL light-years behind because their remotes still suck a lot of power. A Li-Ion could take care of that problem. Logitech's $249 remote appears to be the best deal at this point. I was about to get their 680 or 688 this last year. Good thing I waited.

I just got the 680 and love it. It's one of the best investments in my HT I've made. I bought it when the 880 was announced but from the look of it I didn't think I would like the grouped buttons in the curved design and although the colored icons sound cool I much prefer hard buttons I can navigate without looking down at the remote.

I guess a question I have is whether the buttons on the side of the remote, fade away with repetitive pressings. The ink on rubber remotes seems to disappear in about a year or two completely.

Just got a 659 the other day and love it. It's nice to only have one remote on the table.

If you are a registered member, you can change the background to be white. Helps reading it immensely.

After reading the posts on that one item, changing the background won't help. Also, why have an utterly ridiculous background for non-members. It's kinda retarded. But hey, membership has its privileges.

Harmony 880 Remote

Does anyone know if the Harmony 880 will have a "Video 7" choice?
The other Harmony's seem only to go up to Video 6. I have a Sony HD with HDMI on Video 7. If it does I will wait for the 880 to be released.

I believe you can add video inputs to the TV setup page. My 659 does this via the web interface.
