LCD TV Connection

Please help with the following two questions:
1. I plan to hook up my DVD player to my new LCD TV. But I don't know what kind of cables I'm supposed to get to take advantage of the component input on the TV set. Are component cables simply high-grade RCA cables? Will high-grade audio RCA cables do?

2. My new TV has screen ratio settings for pan&scan, widescreen, and 16:9. I thought widescreen is 16:9. Which of the latter two should I choose when watching DVDs?

hdtv widescreen is 16x9, what model tv do you have, did you check the manual maybe they say the difference,

i would buy actual componant cables to connect the dvd player , if you have a good tv why cheap out on using the wrong cables, you dont have to buy 110 dollar monster cables though,

does your dvd player have a digital output , dvi or hdmi?
