Plaback Modes

What is the best playback mode to listen to DTS or DD5.1 in?? My yamaha has such options as
7 channel stereo
Movie spectacle
Movie Adventure
Hall
Church
Jazz
Rock

Turn off all of those DSP modes and just listen to the track as it was meant to be heard.

I would say it depends on what model receiver you have first. Second, it takes some experimentation on your part. No one can tell you how you like to hear something.

IMO you should use the A.F.D. (auto format decode) option- or none of other sound "options" as they sound gimmicky and are basically just different delay/reverb levels. The plain 5.1 (or higher) soundtrack on the DVD usually sounds the best-and is how the director intended it to sound. If you don't have 5.1 or higher though, that might be your only option to create a surround environment.

What he said.

Either that or "Church". Your choice.

Ditch the DSP modes.

What, no "Airport Terminal Mode"?? Bah! :grunt:

Another vote for leaving out the DSP modes. You can experiment but it should sound best w/o the "enhancement".
